Maria Balshaw
“Manchester is small enough that all of the cultural leaders in the city can get together for a breakfast meeting and say: ‘what are we going to do to make things better here?’”
Maria Balshaw is the Director of the Whitworth, University of Manchester and Manchester City Galleries. Under her direction, the galleries have evolved programmes and joint exhibition projects that build on the strength of the city collections and a spirit of Manchester radicalism. She has published a number of books and essays on African American urban culture, gender and visuality.
